Welcome listeners to our next episode of Speaking of her! Join us for this extraordinary story as we explore the lives of the remarkable suffragettes, Vera Holme (known as Jack) and Evelina Haverfield.
These women dedicated their lives to the fight for humanity, playing pivotal roles in both the suffragette and wartime movements. The first World War temporarily halted the suffragettes' campaign, leading Jack and Eve to join the Scottish Women's Hospital Service. Their work soon took them to Serbia, where Eve helped establish and manage hospitals for allied soldiers under harrowing conditions. Meanwhile, Jack served as an ambulance driver, navigating treacherous dirt tracks under enemy fire to rescue the wounded from the front lines.
Together they carved radical new paths for women - and along the way, discovered love.
